Biography
My name is Markos Markides and I was born in Nicosia in 1979. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Cyprus and Greece.
I studied psychology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Then, I continued my studies and obtained a master degree at University of Indianapolis in the United States of America where I specialised in clinical psychology.
While I was in the USA I completed my practice training and also worked with individuals who had addiction problems providing both individual and group psychotherapy to them and their families. Moreover, I also worked with teenagers who were subjected to physical or/and emotional abuse and maltreatment, and thus due to this, suffered from various sentimental and psychological disorders, attention problems, adjustment issues etc.
When I finally returned to Cyprus I was employed at the Unit of the rehabilitation of Victims of torture where I provided psychological support and psychotherapy to political asylum sekkers and political refugees who had been tortured in their countries. Simultaneously I offered my services as an associate clinical psychologist at the Association of Relatives and Friends of people with addiction problems, where I supervised and guided the group therapy of the relatives of addicts. During the last few years, from 2009 until the present, I have been working as a psychologist at the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society providing psychological support and psychotherapy to cancer patients and their families. In the afternoon, I run a private practice where I come in contact and treat individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, intense stress, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorders, relationship problems, low self-esteem problems etc…
Additionally, I should also mention that I participate in various international conferences, seminars, workshops where I conduct various presentations and give speeches.
